Two More Haruah Publications

On November 1st I was surprised to see I had two photos published at Haruah. On the first day of the month, a cover art photo and illustration of mine were published.

What was the surprise was that the cover art was submitted and accepted as an illustration for a poem. I had no idea that it would grace the cover.

In the Cover Art/Illustration thread at Haruah the managing editor had this to say, “Our cover art for November isn't a bird we traditionally eat on Thanksgiving, but its colors rival those of any fall display. This bird really does have something to boast about.”

Another editor had this to say, “Wow! That is gorgeous! Nice work, Joy. And thanks for sharing it with us. Can I use it as the desktop on my computer? This picture reminds me that God is an artist.”
I have never had anyone ask me to use my photo as computer wallpaper. It was a thrill.

When I thanked them for their comments and stated my surprise to see it on the cover, the managing editor replied, “Looking around at our stash of photos, this one stood out as a good fit for November, and we really liked the colors in it. So, it just seemed a natural cover photo for Nov. I couldn't help myself but use it! Nice work, Joy.”

Another nice comment.

The other publication credit I got on the first was a photo illustration. I took the picture as my husband and I were driving through West Virginia. We had been up there with some of our church members helping a local church hand out gospel tracts and going whitewater rafting. Since the name of the piece was “Tangerine Sky,” I added my own “tangerine” sky to the picture by using the free computer software GIMP.
