Two More Haruah Publications

On November 1st I was surprised to see I had two photos published at Haruah. On the first day of the month, a cover art photo and illustration of mine were published.

What was the surprise was that the cover art was submitted and accepted as an illustration for a poem. I had no idea that it would grace the cover.

In the Cover Art/Illustration thread at Haruah the managing editor had this to say, “Our cover art for November isn't a bird we traditionally eat on Thanksgiving, but its colors rival those of any fall display. This bird really does have something to boast about.”

Another editor had this to say, “Wow! That is gorgeous! Nice work, Joy. And thanks for sharing it with us. Can I use it as the desktop on my computer? This picture reminds me that God is an artist.”
I have never had anyone ask me to use my photo as computer wallpaper. It was a thrill.

When I thanked them for their comments and stated my surprise to see it on the cover, the managing editor replied, “Looking around at our stash of photos, this one stood out as a good fit for November, and we really liked the colors in it. So, it just seemed a natural cover photo for Nov. I couldn't help myself but use it! Nice work, Joy.”

Another nice comment.

The other publication credit I got on the first was a photo illustration. I took the picture as my husband and I were driving through West Virginia. We had been up there with some of our church members helping a local church hand out gospel tracts and going whitewater rafting. Since the name of the piece was “Tangerine Sky,” I added my own “tangerine” sky to the picture by using the free computer software GIMP.

I did want to let you know that Haruah is back up. I made links to my story and photos and shortly after Haruah went down. The company they host with sold to some else and there was a big glitch, but all is well now. So do please, try the links and see my story and my photos.

My Story and Two Photos Are Now in Print

I just realized yesterday that my first story ever published is now in print. My first, and only, story to be published is titled, “A Mother’s Love.” I also self-illustrated my piece with a photo titled, “A Mother’s Love Letter.” This story and photo was first published in Haruah: Breath of Heaven and then reprinted in Turn the Page.

Haruah now has their Spring 2007, Issue 11-13 in print. This issue has the most gorgeous cover photo and has selections by: Bill Snodgrass, R. F. Long, Kevin Shaw, Richard Sederstrom, Sangay Glass, Marianne Watts, and J. M. Munsil.

From cover to end, everyone published in issue 11 is from a writing community that I work with called The NoteBored. Rachel A. Marks with a news piece and cover art; J. M. Munsil with poetry, R. F. Long with fiction, and me with a fiction piece and two photo illustrations.

Issue 12 has two NoteBored members published in it. Keith McKendry did the cover photo and Kevin Shaw did a piece of fiction and self-illustrated it.

R. F. Long of the NoteBored also is published in issue 13 with a poetry piece which she self-illustrated.
